The first of four Hamina-class missile fast attack craft (FAC), FRNS Torńio , has been delivered to the Finnish Navy following the completion of its Squadron 2000 mid-life upgrade (SQ2000 MLU) programme.
Work was carried out under a contract awarded to Patria in 2018. Under the terms of the contract, all four vessels will complete their MLUs by 2021 at Oy Western Shipyard Ltd at a projected cost of EUR323 million (USD360 million). Prime contractor Patria is responsible for the planning, integration, and overall supervision of the programme.
The main focus of the modernisation is on anti-submarine warfare (ASW) capability.
