The US Department of Defense (DoD) is “assessing methods” to improve the sharing of security-related information with contractors, according to a Pentagon official.

“We are committed to the safety and security of the department’s total force – military, civilians, and our contracted partners,” said Ellen Lord, Undersecretary of Defence for Acquisition and Sustainment.

Lord also said that DoD will “synchronise” its efforts with the US State Department “to ensure the best outcomes”.

In the meantime, Lord added, contractors should check State Department travel advisories (www.travel.state.gov) and the DoD Foreign Clearance Guide (https://www.fcg.pentagon.mil) for security updates.

Lord made her comments in an 8 January letter to the Professional Services Council (PSC), which two days earlier asked the DoD and State department to regularly share updated threat information with government contractors, especially those deployed overseas.
