Swiss company RUAG is selling its civil aviation maintenance site at Locarno Airport so its new maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) unit can focus on defence, according to an 8 January announcement.
The buyer is AeLo Maintenance, a new company that has pilot training firm Alsa Aero Locarno as its majority shareholder. Employees at the Locarno site will either switch to the new owner or move to RUAG’s site in Ticino, RUAG said.
The announcement came a day after RUAG revealed that Urs Breitmeier, its CEO since 2013, is leaving the company by “mutual agreement”. He will be replaced on an interim basis by Urs Kiener, chief financial officer of RUAG International, until the search for a permanent successor is completed.
