The French Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced in a press release on 6 January the award of a EUR44 million (USD49 million) contract to Glock for the provision of 74,596 semi-automatic pistols. The ministry also confirmed the choice of the FN SCAR H PR as the French Army's new sniper rifle.

The Pistolet Automatique de Nouvelle Génération (New Generation Automatic Pistol, PANG) contract initially called for the provision of 75,000 semi-automatic pistols: 51 million 9×19 mm cartridges, including four million marker training rounds and two million subsonic rounds; 15,000 visible and infrared night-time aiming devices (flashlight and laser); and 7,000 sound suppressors. Although not stipulated in the press release, Jane's believes the pistol model selected is the Glock 17 Gen 5. Glock will also provide the light/laser aiming modules. Ammunition is to be provided by Sellier and Belliot and UTM will supply training conversion kits. The companies providing training ammunition and sound suppressor were not announced in the press release. Deliveries began in late December 2019 and are expected to be completed by 2022.

The MoD confirmed in a second press release that FN Herstal had been awarded the Fusil de Précision Semi-Automatique (Semi-Automatic Precision Rifle, FPSA) contract for the FN SCAR H PR rifle. The initial contract called for the delivery of 2,600 semi-automatic sniper rifles chambered for 7.62×51 mm, 3.15 million armour-piercing rounds, 3.15 million match grade rounds, 1,800 night-vision sights, and 1,000 thermal weapon sights. The EUR100 million contract was awarded on 13 December 2019 to FN Herstal, which is partnered with OIP Sensor Systems and Telefunken-Racoms for the electro-optics and opto-electronics and MEN for the ammunition. FN Herstal is set to supply a total of 2,620 rifles with day sights and accessories such as bipods and suppressors. Deliveries are to begin in early 2020 and to be completed by 2022.
