South Korean defence company Hanwha Systems said on 7 January that it secured record orders during 2019 based on its strong military-technology developments and its growing profile in international markets.
The company, previously known as Samsung Thales, said its orders for the year reached KRW2.2 trillion (USD1.9 billion). The figure represents a year-on-year increase of nearly 70% and exceeds its 2019 order target by about KRW720 million.
Kim Yeon-chul, Hanwha Systems CEO, attributed the record orders to sales of new technologies and systems - including unmanned systems, advanced weapons, smart systems and cyber defence - and the company's strategy to "actively target global markets".
