India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has launched five laboratories across the country to be operated by "young scientists".
The DRDO said the new laboratories, which were inaugurated on 2 January by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will employ scientists under the age of 35 to develop advanced technologies for the Indian Armed Forces.
The laboratories are located in existing research facilities in cities comprising Bangalore, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, and Hyderabad. The respective focus capability of each laboratory is artificial intelligence (AI), quantum technologies, cognitive technologies, asymmetric technologies, and smart materials.
