Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) is reportedly considering the sale of its major shipbuilding facility in Nagasaki.
In comments to Jane's on 13 December, the corporation did not deny the development.
Japanese news reports said MHI had entered talks to sell its Koyagi Plant shipyard to rival Oshima Shipbuilding. The reports said the move is part of a bid by MHI to exit the construction of liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers and instead focus on other specialised ships such as naval vessels.
Oshima Shipbuilding has not commented on the reports but a spokesperson from MHI told Jane's that the company has not made any official announcements about the sale.
