Turkey to increase domestic content and exports of defence equipment

11 December 2019

Turkey’s Presidency of Defence Industries (SSB) published a strategic plan for 2019–23 on 4 December aiming to increase domestic content of defence equipment to 73% and exports to about USD10.2 billion by 2023.

The strategy also sets the objective of developing high technology defence products that will reduce foreign dependency, among other objectives.

The SSB’s 2023 roadmap prioritises investment in future unmanned and autonomous technologies, artificial intelligence, new generation weapon systems, and cyber security and space.

Test and evaluation infrastructure will be developed for the defence industry: a cyber security test and evaluation centre to be established in 2022 and land vehicle and ballistic test centres in 2023.
