Malaysia to launch defence industrial development policy

Malaysia is planning to introduce a defence industrial strategy to “determine the direction” of the development of the country’s military-technical capability over the coming decade and beyond, an overview of the country’s new Defence White Paper published by the Malaysian Ministry of Defence (MoD) has said.

The overview, published by the MoD to coincide with Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu’s presentation of the White Paper to Malaysia’s parliament on 2 December, says, “Science, technology and the defence industry are important components to achieve [an] independent capability in supporting the defence ecosystem [and have] the potential to be a catalyst for Malaysian economic growth.”
