A US unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) has been lost over the Libya capital Tripoli a day after the Italian Air Force lost a UAV in the same area.
US Africa Command confirmed on 22 November that the unidentified UAV was lost the day before.
"An unarmed US Africa Command remotely piloted aircraft (RPA) was lost over Tripoli, Libya, 21 November," it said. "RPA operations are conducted in Libya to assess the ongoing security situation and monitor violent extremist activity. These operations are critical to counter terror activity in Libya and are fully co-ordinated with appropriate government officials."
It added that the incident was "currently under investigation" and provided no indication of the cause of the loss.
