France’s Naval Group has launched a research and development (R&D) centre in Singapore, the company announced on 21 November. The group said the new facility is aimed at creating a “world-class expertise for strategic naval defence research topics”.
Naval Group said the R&D centre will facilitate co-operation between the company and local start-ups and small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to “foster open innovation”. It added that parties involved in the centre will collaborate to study innovative trends that are relevant for the defence sector.
The facility will have three main objectives, said Naval Group. These comprise developments in new technologies, such as big data and artificial intelligence; supporting the supply of innovative technologies for regional markets; and supporting efforts led by the governments of Singapore and France to invest in R&D.
