Qatari company Barzan Holdings showcased a model of an 8×8 modular unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) at the 18-20 November DSEI Japan 2019 defence exhibition in Chiba.
The multi-role platform, which is being developed in Qatar by Rheinmetall Barzan Advanced Technologies (RBAT) - a joint venture (JV) between Barzan Holdings and Rheinmetall AG - is aimed at meeting a future requirement by the Qatar Armed Forces for autonomous tactical support platforms.
The UGV, which also comes in a tracked variant, can be used for surveillance, border protection and rescue missions as well as for logistical support.
Depending on the mission the UGV can be equipped with different payloads, including high-definition day-and-night cameras, radar systems, and radio-frequency detectors.
