The Philippines' Senate has approved a 2020 defence budget of PHP191.3 billion (USD3.7 billion), it announced on 13 November.
The approved expenditure, which represents a year-on-year increase of about 4%, is a slight increase over the PHP188.6 billion that was proposed for the appropriation in August.
A breakdown of the approved defence budget was not disclosed by the Senate. However, according to the proposed expenditure, the Philippine Army (PA) will receive nearly half of the budget, with the Philippine Navy (PN) and Philippine Air Force (PAF) allocated 15% and 14% respectively.
The remainder is allocated to cross-services requirements, the AFP headquarters, the defence college, and the government's firearms and ammunition manufacturer, Government Arsenal.
