Italy's defence and aerospace manufacturer Leonardo published financial results covering the first nine months of its 2019 financial year on 7 November, showing a EUR894 million (USD988 million), or 10.8%, rise in sales year on year.
The company’s earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) also increased to EUR648 million, up by EUR276 million compared with the same period in 2018.
While all three of Leonardo’s defence-focused business segments expanded their sales in the nine months to 30 September, Defence Electronics and Security and Aeronautics grew the fastest, with expansions of 12.5% and 13.8% respectively, compared with Helicopters’ 3.0%.
The largest improvement in earnings was achieved by the Defence Electronics and Security segment, however, which ended the period with EBIT 48.1% higher than in 2018, while Aeronautics’ performance by this metric declined slightly.
