Russia's Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI) announced on 5 November that it had completed the manufacture of an aerodynamic model of its proposed heavy-lift transport aircraft known as "Slon" (Elephant).
The model, made of aluminium alloys and steel, will be used in wind tunnel tests in 2019 and 2020. In a statement, TsAGI said that the testing campaign in 2020 will include airflow visualisation and aerodynamic studies of take-off and landing aerodynamics.
TsAGI first revealed in January that it was constructing an aerodynamic mock-up of the aircraft, consisting of the fuselage, wings, engine nacelles, vertical and horizontal stabilisers, and landing gear housing.
