The Russian army has received the first batch of upgraded T-80BVM main battle tanks (MBTs) from JSC Omsk Transport Machine-Building Plant (Omsktransmash), a subsidiary of Rostec's Uralvagonzavod corporation, the plant's spokesperson announced on 31 October, without specifying numbers.
Omsktransmash director general Igor Lobov said that the upgraded T-80BVM had received a reinforced protection suite comprising modular explosive reactive armour (ERA), a new gunner's sight, and an upgraded fire-control system. The tank is powered by a multifuel gas-turbine engine with improved fuel efficiency and carries ERA side screens and bar-slat armour.
