US Navy Secretary Richard Spencer said the Department of Defence's new Joint Artificial Intelligence Centre (JAIC) is meeting the service's demands for AI-based technologies, enabling navy officials to concentrate on fielding and employment of those capabilities.
"It is a stand up [organisation] and they are reaching out" to the various service branches, gauging what the AI demand is from each service, Spencer said of the JAIC's ongoing efforts during a 30 October media briefing in Washington DC. "Progress is being made," he said, noting that the JAIC's focus is on commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) technologies to address near and mid-term needs for AI-based requirements.
