Switzerland prefers Elbit for army radio requirement

30 October 2019

The Swiss Federal Department of Defense, Civil Protection, and Sport (DDPS) announced on 29 October that it has selected Elbit Systems as the preferred provider of replacement mobile radios, intercom systems, and headsets for the Swiss Army under the Thales-led Armed Forces Telecommunications project.

The procurement remains subject to approval by the Swiss Parliament.

Elbit is offering a solution based on the open-architecture E-LynX software-defined radio family. It was selected ahead of a proposal from Rohde & Schwarz. Specialists from armasuisse, the Swiss defence equipment procurement agency, and the Swiss Armed Forces subjected equipment from both companies to a series of tests.
