The US State Department has approved the sale of a second surplus Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigate to Bahrain, the Defense Security Co-operation Agency (DSCA) announced on 23 October.

The proposed deal is for the refurbishment of ex-USS Robert G Bradley , which was commissioned into US Navy service in 1984 and decommissioned in 2014.

The DSCA put the estimated cost of the refurbishment, spares, support, and training at USD150 million. It noted that the contractor that will perform the work has yet to be identified.

"This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security of the United States by helping to improve the security of an important ally, which is a force for political stability and economic progress in the Middle East," it said.
