The Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence (MND) announced on 18 October that it plans to begin negotiations with the US government to acquire six UH-60M utility helicopters.
"Currently the Lithuanian Armed Forces use three operational Soviet-made Mi-8s, which are very near the end of their airworthiness, and three AS365 N3+ Dauphins," Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis said. He added that the Mi-8s are expensive to maintain and risky to operate because it is difficult to get spare parts from Russia.
The letter of offer and acceptance is expected to be signed by the end of 2020. The first UH-60M is planned to be delivered to the Lithuanian Armed Forces in 2024.
