Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed closer defence equipment co-operation with Saudi Arabia on his first visit to the country since 2007, news agency TASS reported on 15 October.
In talks with King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud in Riyadh on 14 October, Putin “discussed the possibility of cooperating in the area of military technology”, TASS noted, quoting Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
He would not be drawn on whether the discussions covered Saudi procurement of the S-400 air-defence system, but Russian presidential assistant Vladimir Kozhin said in February that the Saudi government was insisting on acquiring Russian-produced S-400 systems and receiving the technology to produce indigenous systems.
