Turkish company Aselsan opened a new factory in Kiev on 10 October, to provide locally manufactured radios for the Ukrainian armed forces.
The facility will produce tactical VHF communications sets under the terms of a 2017 framework agreement between Aselsan and the Ukrainian government. As part of this agreement, Ukroboronprom company Spetstechnoexport signed a USD6 million contract on 9 October with Aselsan for regular supplies of VHF radios. "This agreement is implemented under the mechanism of offset obligations [for Aselsan] and provides for their production in Ukraine," Ukroboronprom announced.
The VHF radios will be delivered in 2020, as the first sets to be manufactured in Ukraine.
