The first piece of infrastructure for a new military training area in Australia's North Queensland has been completed, according to an 8 October statement by the Department of Defence (DoD) in Canberra.
The AUD5.4 million (USD3.64 million) explosive ordnance storage 'Earth Covered Building' (ECB) at Mount Stuart in Townsville, which was funded by Singapore under the AUD2.25 billion Australia-Singapore Military Training Initiative (ASMTI), will enable the Singapore Armed Forces to have access to such a storage facility when they train in Australia, said Australian Defence Minister Linda Reynolds.
"This project is a significant milestone for the ASMTI and coincides with the start of early construction work on the new training area near Greenvale in North Queensland," said Reynolds.
