EU’s military mobility action gaining steam on the removal of cross-border obstacles

The EU's action plan to ease military mobility in Europe is reaching several milestones, according to EU officials. These include a general agreement on all the detailed technical changes required for transport and other infrastructure networks, a new common customs document for import, export and transit of military goods, and converging border procedures among its member states for intra-EU troop movements.

"We should soon reach agreement with the member states about the exact things they will need to modify in their transport infrastructures to meet the action plan's dual-use objectives," Jean-Louis Colson, head of unit for mobility and transport at the European Commission's transport policy department, told an 8 October meeting in Brussels of the European Parliament's sub-committee on security and defence.
