European missile specialist MBDA has pointed to its recently announced strengthened partnership with Indian company Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) as indicative of its efforts to deepen its in-country engagement in defence offsets and industrial collaboration.
Under an agreement signed in September between MBDA and BDL, the two firms intend to collaborate on establishing a final assembly, integration and test (FAIT) facility in support of the European company's Mistral air-to-air/air defence missile and its Advanced Short Range Air-to-Air Missile (ASRAAM). Both missile systems are in operation with the Indian military.
In a statement to Jane's on 30 September, MBDA said its new arrangement with BDL is a "good example" of its expanding collaborative work with both public and private sector entities in India.
