Newly minted US Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy is promising to maintain the army's current lines of effort and modernisation priorities as the Pentagon looks for ways to prepare for a military conflict with China and Russia.
Sworn in on 30 September as the 24th army secretary, McCarthy said that despite the "significant leadership transition" across the service and Pentagon, he will remain focused on supporting the National Defense Strategy.
"Continuity of priorities and leadership focus is critical to achieve the 2018 Army Vision, which provides the strategic framework for guiding the army into the next decade," he wrote in a letter to the force dated 27 September.
