The Russian Ministry of Defence has decreed the formation of two Okhotnik (Hunter) unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) units in 2024, the Izvestia newspaper reported on 16 September.

One unit each is to be based in the Western and Southern Military Districts respectively.

The report references an earlier Izvestia story published on 27 August about a variant of the Altius high-altitude, long-endurance (HALE) UAV for the Russian Navy. The decision to develop the naval Altius was made in early 2019. Two variants are to be developed: a reconnaissance variant with a target designation capability; and a strike variant that an unnamed Russian expert told Izvestia is most likely armed with Kh-35 subsonic anti-ship cruise missiles.
