The Russian Navy is set to receive 10 serial Project 955A Borey-A-class nuclear-powered ballistic-missile submarines (SSBNs) and Project 885M Yasen-M-class nuclear-powered attack (SSN) submarines by 2024 under the State Armament Programme (SAP), according to the country's deputy defence minister Alexey Krivoruchko.
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) is also planning to supply the navy with four additional strategic submarines, including two Project 885M SSNs and two Project 955A SSBNs, Krivoruchko told reporters during a 9 September visit to Sevmash shipyard.
“At the Army 2019 defence show, we signed a contract for two additional Project 885M SSNs. A decision to procure two more Project 955A SSBNs has already been made and we will sign a relevant contract soon,” he said.
