Russia plans to return the Kirov-class (Project 1144) nuclear-powered guided-missile cruiser Admiral Nakhimov to frontline service in 2022 after more than 20 years being laid up at Sevmash shipyard in Severodvinsk.

According to Russian deputy defence minister Alexsey Krivoruchko, Admiral Nakhimov is on target to complete its overhaul and modernisation by the new date.

"It will be the most powerful navy warship," he said in comments reported by state news agency TASS on 10 September. "We inspected the project, the ship is now about 50% ready. As was agreed with Sevmash shipyard, we expect to receive the ship in late 2022.
