A national command centre to co-ordinate military, law enforcement, intelligence, and civilian agencies in time of crisis and conflict should be set up by the UK government, according to the head of the UK armed forces' Joint Forces Command (JFC) General Patrick Sanders.

Speaking at the DSEI exhibition in London on 10 September, Gen Sanders said there is no longer a neat division between overseas conflicts and crisis at home so UK command-and-control capabilities need to evolve to address that new reality.

The proposal is part of a package of measures the UK Ministry of Defence is developing to move from joint operations between the armed services into what Gen Sanders called "integrated operations" bringing together air, land, maritime, cyber, and information operations.
