Rheinmetall presented the new Mission Master-Protection unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) armed with the Warmate loitering munition system at the International Defence Industry Exhibition MSPO being held in Kielce, Poland, on 3-6 September 2019, the German company announced in a press release on 3 September.
Rheinmetall has partnered with WB Group, which produces Warmate loitering munition. The German company said Warmate provides a range of new offensive and observation capabilities to the Mission Master, which it said has the first ever tube-launched system equipped with several of the loitering munitions to perform surgical swarm attacks.
Alain Tremblay, Rheinmetall Canada's vice-president for business development said the Mission Master-Warmate combination gives ground commanders the ability "to observe hidden targets and conduct precise identification before initiating a surgical strike with minimal collateral damage", adding that "since both the Mission Master and the Warmate are able to conduct certain autonomous operations, it reduces the number of military personnel required and lets troops focus on mission success".
