The Philippine Department of National Defense (DND) has issued another tender in support of its programme to procure two landing dock vessels for the Philippine Navy (PN).
The tender, issued by the DND in late August, follows the release of a similar document in June, which outlined a preference for local construction, although failed to attract any qualifying bidders.
The new tender removes the local construction requirement only stipulating that the contractor “shall grant ownership of the vessel’s design to the DND and the PN”. The inclusion of this clause is intended to support the Philippines' future indigenisation efforts.
According to the new tender, the procured landing docks should have a minimum gross weight of 5,000 tonnes.
