The US Department of State has approved a possible USD72 million Foreign Military Sale (FMS) of Mk 54 All-Up-Round lightweight torpedoes along with related equipment and services to South Korea, the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) announced on 27 August.
Seoul had requested to buy 31 Mk 54 anti-submarine warfare (ASW) torpedoes along with containers, “recoverable exercise torpedoes with containers, fleet exercise section and fuel tanks, air launch accessories for fixed wing”, and torpedo spare parts, according to the DSCA.
Also included in the potential sale, which still needs to be approved by the US Congress, are training, publications, support and test equipment, US government and contractor engineering, technical, and logistics support services, and other related elements of logistics and programme support.
