27 August 2019

Images have emerged on Chinese social media showing a China’s People’s Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) Xian H-6N strategic bomber armed with what appear to be two KD-20/CJ-10K and two KD-63 land-attack cruise missiles (LACMs).

The images, which show at least two H-6-series bombers flying in close formation, were reportedly taken during rehearsals for the upcoming military parade to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China on 1 October. At least one of the bombers is an H-6N, marking the first time that photographs have emerged of this bomber variant featuring this particular weapon configuration.

The KD-20 LACM has a range of at least 1,500 km, while the KD-63 can engage land targets at a maximum distance of 200 km, according to Jane’s Air-Launched Weapons.
