Production of the Dornier 328 high-wing turboprop is due to resume after a 17-year hiatus, after reports in the German media indicated that Sierra Nevada’s 328 Support Services will manufacture the aircraft.
An announcement on 21 August is expected to confirm that production will restart at Leipzig/Halle Airport.
Designed as a commercial passenger aircraft, the Dornier 328 is the basis for the US Air Force (USAF) C-146A Wolfhound light transport. Twenty C-146As are in service with USAF Special Operations Command, with continuous deployment since October 2011. The aircraft can carry up to 27 passengers, 2,700 kg of cargo, or four stretchered patients.
