Atkins announced on 16 August that it has joined Aeralis’s development of a modular solution for basic and advanced combat aircraft training, including for the United Kingdom’s sixth generation Tempest fighter project.
UK-based Aeralis announced in July that it had teamed with Thales on development of the aircraft, which will include a common core fuselage that can be adapted for basic or advanced training with different wings and engines.
It claims that the acquisition and maintenance cost of the family of trainers will be 30% less than a conventional flight training system, as the modular design provides 85% commonality of aircraft parts.
