Turkey and the United States are in the process of implementing their agreement to establish a Joint Operations Centre (JOC) in Şanlıurfa to co-ordinate a 'safe zone' along the border in northeast Syria, the Turkish Ministry of Defence (MSB) said on 16 August.
The announcement came after a US military delegation headed by Lieutenant General Stephen Twitty, deputy commander of US European Command, visited Şanlıurfa to supervise the establishment of the JOC.
Meanwhile, the MSB announced on 14 August that Turkish unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) had already begun monitoring the zone.
