India’s Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) inaugurated a composites manufacturing facility on 13 August at its complex in Navi Mumbai on India’s east coast.
BEL said the new facility, which is named Composite Materials, Environmental Testing & Finishing, will focus on producing a range of composite components for military platforms including vehicles, naval vessels, and aircraft.
The new production capability expands the Navi Mumbai unit, which had previously undertaken some work on composites, but was traditionally focused on building shelters and masts as well as hydraulic systems for the Indian Army’s fleets of Soviet-era T-72 main battle tanks.
