Navy leverages gaming tech in new augmented reality training prototype

Programme officials at the US Navy's Office of Naval Research (ONR) and Naval Surface Warfare Command (NSWC) are pulling a page from the video game industry, leveraging the advances made in that field in augmented reality (AR) technology and integrating them into near-term solutions for US Navy training operations.

Officials at ONR's Global TechSolutions teamed with engineers at Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division to develop the TRACER program, an AR combat training simulator designed as a "rapid-prototype solution ... given the technology available today" for the navy's Center for Security Forces' (CENSECFOR)," said Jason Payne, director of the Global TechSolutions programme.
