Ukrspecexport and Baykar Makina have established a joint venture (JV) to co-operate on the development of precision weapons and aerospace technologies, the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC) announced on 9 August.
The JV will mass-produce technologies for the Turkish and Ukrainian armed forces, combining the capabilities that each can offer and shifting from traditional linear defence purchases towards collaborative efforts to develop indigenous systems.
Ukrspecexport, the export division of the state-owned Ukroboronprom defence industry concern, and Baykar, a Turkish unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) maker, announced that an initial project will focus on development of a next-generation UAV, which will be able to carry out high-altitude, long-endurance reconnaissance missions at high speeds while also being able to deploy precision-guided weapons.
