SERO 400 periscopes selected for Preveze-class submarine upgrade

05 August 2019

The Turkish Naval Forces Command’s four Type 209/1400 Preveze-class diesel-electric submarines are to receive dual Hensoldt SERO 400 series periscopes as part of their mid-life upgrade.

Under contract to Savunma Teknolojileri Mühendislik ve Ticaret (STM), which has overall responsibility for the Preveze-class upgrade, Hensoldt’s Optronics business line will supply a total of eight SERO 400 direct view periscopes, all equipped with thermal imagers as add-on units. The contract is valued at approximately EUR40 million (USD44 million).

Featuring dual-axis, line-of-site stabilisation, the SERO 400 periscope system combines a direct view colour HDTV camera, a high resolution low-light TV camera, a high resolution digital still picture camera, and an optional medium-waveband infrared camera.
