Turkey opened its first test and research laboratory on 29 July at Tusaş Engines Industries’ (TEI’s) facilities in Eskişehir, central Anatolia.
The laboratory will pave the way for Turkey to design and build its own engines, İsmail Demir, who heads Turkey’s Presidency of Defence Industries (SSB), tweeted on 29 July.
In an interview with state broadcaster TRT on the same day, Demir confirmed that following the suspension of US F-35 deliveries to Turkey after it received components of the S-400 air defence system from Russia, the SSB has been accelerating its Turkish Fighter Experimental (TF-X) project, as well as increasing engine and subsystem infrastructure investments.
