The Jordan Armed Forces (JAF) has a new chief less than three years after its previous one was appointed.
It was announced on 24 July that King Abdullah II had appointed Major General (Pilot) Yousef Hunaiti to replace Lieutenant General Mahmoud Freihat as chairman of the joint chiefs of staff. Maj Gen Hunaiti previously served as the commander of the Royal Jordanian Air Force (RJAF) from December 2016.
Major General Zaid al-Nuqrosh was named as the new RJAF commander on the following day.
Aged 60, Maj Gen Hunaiti is the first air force commander to be appointed as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
