The US Navy awarded Lockheed Martin the combat system ship integration and test agent for the service’s guided-missile frigate (FFG[X]) programme, the company said.
The contract covers 10 years – 1 base year and 9 option years – and carries a potential total value of USD125 million.
With the contract, Lockheed Martin will be responsible for the overall integration of the combat system elements into the frigate ship design as well as the installation and associated waterfront testing.
Lockheed Martin had been a competitor for the overall FFG(X) programme, but the contractor recently opted to withdraw from that competition, focusing instead on frigate-related combat-system work or similar competitions, noting its long-term experience in such programmes.
