Boeing has subcontracted Marshall Aerospace and Defence to carry out modification work in the United Kingdom for the Royal Air Force’s acquisition of the E-7 Wedgetail airborne early warning and control aircraft.
Marshall will modify the five 737 airliners into the E-7 AEW&C configuration, including the integration of the multi-role electronically-scanned array surveillance radar provided by Northrop Grumman, and the communication and mission computer systems.
The company says that the work will help sustain hundreds of jobs at its Cambridge, UK site.
This risk reduction contract is expected to be followed by a subsequent contract for more collaboration between the two companies, and work is due to begin in early 2021.
