UK Defence Secretary Penny Mordaunt and Swedish Defence Minister Peter Hultqvist signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on 18 July to co-operate on future combat air systems.
Describing the agreement as "landmark", the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) said on its website on 19 July that the MOU "commits both governments to work on a joint combat air development and acquisition programme, including the development of new concepts to meet both nations' future requirements".
The Swedish MoD on 19 July described the MOU "as the starting point for the countries to analyse the conditions for deeper co-operation on the development of future combat aircraft capabilities".
