The Indian Ministry of Defence (MoD) has launched a scheme to promote the increased participation of domestic small businesses in defence development and production activities.
The “scheme for the promotion of MSMEs [micro, small and medium-sized enterprises] in defence” – announced by the MoD’s Department of Defence Production (DDP) – is intended to “boost the self-reliance of the country in defence and contribute towards the burgeoning defence exports market”.
Under the initiative the MoD said it will introduce programmes across the country to “educate” MSMEs about the opportunities for engagement in the defence sector, as well as related “requirements and expectations”.
