Russian Helicopters plans to re-engineer about 30 different rotorcraft parts using additive manufacturing this year, integrating them into its serial production from 2020.
Each component will undergo construction redesign and strength testing, and will have to perform to the standard expected of other modern production technologies.
This testing will assess whether or not the parts are on a par or superior to the systems they would replace, which are made to traditional standards, and following this, approval for the components can be granted and then integrated within the production line of several helicopter series.
"We are talking about serious power elements of the structures, units, and systems of our helicopters," Andrey Shibitov, director for innovations for Russian Helicopters, said.
