Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has said that Tehran is prepared to talk about its ballistic missile programme in exchange for the United States cutting defence exports to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), but only after the US has returned to the 2015 nuclear deal.
“Let’s start with what has already been agreed, let us see what we can do, and then if you want to discuss ballistic missiles then we need to discuss the amount of weapons that are sold to our region,” he said in a 15 July interview with NBC News.
“We have an 82 million population, almost a million people under arms, and we spent only USD16 billion [on the Iranian military].
