An A400M air-to-air refuelling (AAR) version with 21 personnel was deployed from its home base of Wunstorf, eastern Germany, to Jordan on 5 July, joining a Luftwaffe A310 Multi-Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) that has been conducting the mission from Al-Asraq airbase in Jordan since July 2017.

The Luftwaffe has been working towards the certification of an A400M AAR version since August 2018.
